Love is the only path that never bends
Love is the only dream that never ends
Life is a journey that offers many paths. Some are appealing and some are treacherous, but for those who believe in things like truth and love there is only one path to choose. They call it the straight and narrow path but as you get older you find it can get pretty wide in places. The sun always shines on that path. And there is always room for people to walk the path with you.
I recently walked a happy little path with a few friends to record this song. The rhythm section of Chris DeRosa on drums, and Julie Rozansky on bass, locked in on some tricky transitions to expertly navigate this piece. Reed Black produced and helped me with the piano parts. I originally built this song around a Bach-ish piano riff and Reed came up with the idea of altering the left handed part to play a harmony rather than doubling on the octave. Since my muscle memory was locked into the original pattern, we switched places, with me in the control room and him on the piano bench. Sometimes the path requires some fancy footwork.
I hope you enjoy listening to this, the fifth song and video from my album Surrender to Love. I also hope that the next time you find yourself out for a stroll on that unbending path, you’ll keep an eye out for me. I’ll do the same for you.
Curl up in a ball
And tell me all of the burdens you bear
I’ll help you carry them
Don’t be afraid
Of any choice or mistake that you made
If you learned anything
And when you’re broke
And you give up on your very last hope
Just remember you’re not alone
no, you’re not alone
‘cause you can’t forget
That no matter how bad the bad things get
Your heart is still beating
Don’t let your heart hide
All of the love that’s inside
Don’t let your heart hide
Love is the only path that never bends
Love is the only dream that never ends
Love is the only thought that’s always new
Love is the only thought that’s always true
Love is the only thought I have when I have you
Love is the only thought I have
