Track 5 – Magdalena

This is not a song about Mary Magdalene, unless it is to you. Who am I to tell you what this song is about? To me, it’s about missing someone or something that was probably never more than a vague dream. Or something that was real but is gone now, living only in memories that get foggier all the time. Sometimes, it is the lack of definition that makes for attraction. When there are things we don’t know about someone or something, we can fill in the blank spaces with our imagination. And my imagination doesn’t need much to set it off.
I also got to throw down a little banjo on this track, which always makes me happy.

I know Magdalena's not real But I still remember how she made me feel It's a lie no truth can conceal And I miss Magdalena Oh yeah, I miss Magdalena I know there's some things I can't fix But maybe I can still teach this old dog new tricks Like how to stand on his hind legs Before he rolls over and begs Come on, old dog, roll over and beg I know that time just moves one way But memories linger from long ago days Not every memory is true The only one matters is you Yeah, the only one matters is you 'Cause I know Magdalena's not real But I still remember how she made me feel It's a lie no truth can conceal And I miss Magdalena Oh yeah, I miss Magdalena I miss Magdalena
