I woke up today feeling helpless and hopeless. There’s something about a madman shooting hundreds of people from a hotel window that breeds helplessness. And something more about living in a country of cowards who bow before the National Rifle Association that breeds hopelessness.
Then I heard it was 50 years ago today that Woody Guthrie died and I felt a little ashamed. Because this land is my land. And I am sick to death of this land being turned into a playground for gun nuts. And even if I don’t live to see the death of our sick gun culture, I know in my heart that someday it will die the grisly death it so richly deserves.
“The people are building a peaceful world, and when the job is done, that’ll be the biggest thing that man has ever done.” Woody Guthrie
I’ll tell you why, why, why
There’s a better world that’s a-coming
I’ll tell you why
There’s a better world that’s a-coming
I’ll tell you why
There’s a better world that’s a-coming
Don’t you see?
I’ll tell you why, why, why
There’s a better world that’s a-coming
I’ll tell you why
You can hear the chains a-rattling
There’s a better world that’s a-coming
I’ll tell you why
