The Great Seal

On this day in 1782 the US Congress adopted The Great Seal of The United States. The physical seal is kept by the Secretary of State and it is used to authenticate documents for the government. It is used on treaties, passports, military insignia, and flags. It is also the inspiration for another great seal.

The Ramones logo was designed by NYC artist Arturo Vega, the band’s friend and lighting director, who was inspired by a trip to Washington DC to create a logo that depicts the boys from Queens as an All-American band. The original design had “look out below” in the scroll. It was later changed to “Hey. Ho. Let’s Go.”  Joey, Johnny, DeeDee, and Arturo Vega are all dead now but the Ramones will live forever.

Nine to five and five to nine
Ain’t gonna take it, it’s our time
We want the world and we want it now
We’re gonna take it, anyhow

We want the airwaves (that’s right, that’s right)
We want the airwaves (that’s right, that’s right)
We want the airwaves, baby
If rock is gonna stay alive

Oh yeah, well, all right
Let’s rock, tonight, all night

Oh yeah, well, all right
Let’s rock, tonight, all night

Where’s your guts and will to survive?
Don’t you want to keep rock and roll music alive?
Mister programmer, I got my hammer for to smash my, smash my radio

We want the airwaves (that’s right, that’s right)
We want the airwaves (that’s right, that’s right)
We want the airwaves, baby
If rock is gonna stay alive
