50,000

It’s just a little under 6 months since I released my latest album Compulsions and today one of the songs – I Like You – hit 50,000 streams on Spotify. It’s an arbitrary number, but a nice, round one. It reminded me of the cover of one of Elvis Presley’s greatest hits collections called 50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can’t Be Wrong. So I fiddled with the cover photo just enough to show how little I know about photo editing.

Luckily, my ability to write and record music towers over my photo editing skills and since the release of Compulsions I have written more than enough songs for the follow up. Once I have arranged them sufficiently to take them into the studio, but not so much that they get overdone (it’s a delicate balance!), I will be sharing them here, there, and everywhere. In the meantime, if you are not one of the 50,000 that have listened so far, and even if you are, I hope you can take a minute (or 3 minutes and 6 seconds) to give it a listen now:

I like the sounds that you make
When you make a mistake
Or you make the kind of love that
Nobody can fake

I like the smell of your skin
When your patience wears thin
And there's so much to do you don't know
Where to begin

I like the thought of your soul
Going out of control
When you get fired up
When you get on a roll

I like nothing as much as I like
Nothing as much as I like
Nothing as much as I like you

I like the look of your smile
When your life's a pile
Of confusion you wear
Like it's the latest style

I like the cross and the blood
And the tears and the mud
And the way your walls crack
When you can't hold back the flood

I like nothing as much as I like
Nothing as much as I like
Nothing as much as I like you

I like cats and the zoo
I like everything we do
And if there's more life after death
I bet I'll like that too

I like grass, trees,
Everything that makes you sneeze,
And the way you get wet
When you get on your knees

I like nothing as much as I like
Nothing as much as I like
Nothing as much as I like you
