“If your life’s like mine you’re gonna need some day drinking time.”
I know I said that the songs on this album are not about the events of our recent history but as the drummer Chris pointed out, this one is.
Like a lot of people, my consumption of alcohol increased noticeably during the pandemic. Unlike a lot of others, this was more silver lining that dark cloud to me. There is something oddly transgressive about getting drunk before the sun goes down and, under the right circumstances, it can feel wonderful.
Reed’s skills as a producer came into play during the mixing of this song. Not just because of the ticking clock but also because of the multi-layered instrumentation. And if there ever was a time to break out the banjo and harmonica, it’s for a song called Day Drinking.
I'm daydreaming Of day drinking It's just another way To pass the time of day Heartbroken But still hoping To string along some words That you have never heard If your life's like mine You're gonna need some ay drinking time It's day drinking It's day drinking It's day drinking It's day drinking time I'm daydreaming Of blowing off steam With a friend or two Maybe even you If you're not working Or tear-jerking Because for what it's worth I'd like to quench your thirst If you're life's like mine You're gonna need some day drinking time It's day drinking It's day drinking It's day drinking It's day drinking time I'm daydreaming Of day drinking Yeah, I got a hunch I'm gonna have a liquid lunch If you're free Join me And if you're on the clock Just let me know When you Get off If your life's like mine You're gonna need some day drinking time It's day drinking It's day drinking It's day drinking It's day drinking time
