Day 19 – Total confirmed cases in US: 245,601

“We shall require a substantially new manner of thinking if mankind is to survive.”
Albert Einstein

The reckoning is here. Dylan’s hard rain is pelting the fuck out of us. What we could have done to stop it doesn’t matter now. It will again at some point but, now, all we can do is the thing we always do when the unspeakable happens: try to limit the suffering.

I don’t think the stock market crashed because of the virus, or the unemployed millions. They crashed, here and all over the world, because the people who hoard the wealth of the world and move the markets – banks, oil companies, arms & drug dealers, gangsters, sociopaths – know they might not still be calling the shots when the hard rain ends and the dust settles.

Nature has her own way of doing things, and she has decided that now is the time to move this piece onto history’s board. She will kill millions of us, but it is nothing personal, and nothing malicious. The comparisons to war are fair: the death, the physical and emotional devastation, the disbelief that something so terrible is possible, and the determination to defeat an invading force.

But our enemy this time, for once, is not each other.
