Due Date

A woman I know is coming up to her due date. What wonders her baby will witness and possibly unleash. It takes me back to the dawning of my own parenthood all those years ago. So many mysteries solved even as new ones hatched and proliferated faster than I could catch up with them. I am reminded again of the great debt that members of my gender owe to the other one.

Her due date is Sunday, the day of rest, even for God, but not for woman. Rupi Kaur’s father told her the closest thing to God on this earth is a woman’s body. It’s where life comes from. Let the universe rest. At her feet.
