This Bastard Dance

This bastard dance
Of furtive movements
And stumbling steps
Has broken my self-confidence

I’m going to miss
The sound of your footsteps
Seeing you smile
And hearing you sing

This bastard dance
Has twisted my ankles
Shattered my kneecaps
And dislocated my hips

I’m going to miss
The nervous way you play with your hair when you talk to me
I’m going to miss
The way you touch the part of my heart I thought was safely hidden away
I’m going to miss
This bastard dance
