I stopped reading the news after the election. What could anyone say that would make sense of what we had done to our country?

On January 19, Tik Tok posted the following message:

The fact that Donald Trump was not the president at the time only added to subservience that people who ought to know better are already offering the convicted felon. So I delted my Tik Tok account.

I deleted my Twitter/X account a while ago after Elon Musk decided to make it a safe space for those who want to weave a web of lies without fear of contradiction.

Mark Zuckerberg has since concluded that fact-checking will henceforward be verboten on Facebook now that we have elected an openly corrupt liar as president. That might be the next account to go.

We are about 30 years into the experiment of social media and it has already damaged our 248 year old experiment in democracy. There are things I will miss about Tik Tok and Xitter but not a lot of things.

I’m still on Facebook and Instagram, for now. I will still post videos to YouTube, and music on all the usual platforms. But as this country takes a hard turn into bigotry and ignorance, it’s time to admit that the waters around us have grown and we better start swimming in a new direction.

Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you is worth savin'
And you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'

Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who
That it's namin'
For the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'

Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
The battle outside ragin'
Will soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'

Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is rapidly agin'
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'

The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is rapidly fadin'
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'
