Song lyrics stick in my head. This one, by Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues, has been stuck there since I was a teenager:

Letters I've written
Never meaning to send

When I was younger, I found it confusing. Why would you write a letter if you didn’t mean to send it? Now I know. It’s because there are people in life whose impact is so profound it overrides the ability for rational thought, even in those whose processes normally function well enough to construct an intelligible letter.

In such a case, it is best to roll up that letter, insert it in a bottle, and toss it into the wide, perilous sea. These days, that sea might be the internet. I am glad this one washed up on your shore.

Nights in white satin
Never reaching the end
Letters I've written
Never meaning to send

Beauty I'd always missed
With these eyes before
Just what the truth is
I can't say anymore

'Cause I love you
Yes, I love you
Oh, how I love you

Gazing at people
Some hand in hand
Just what I'm going through
They can't understand

Some try to tell me
Thoughts they cannot defend
Just what you want to be
You will be in the end

And I love you
Yes, I love you
Oh, how I love you
Oh, how I love you

Nights in white satin
Never reaching the end
Letters I've written
Never meaning to send

Beauty I've always missed
With these eyes before
Just what the truth is
I can't say anymore

'Cause I love you
