I was meeting a friend for drinks after work and had a little time to kill so, rather than drink alone (not that there’s anything wrong with that), I went to Bryant Park. For such a small park it holds a big place in my heart. You can feel the seasons change there. This song came to me as quickly as any ever has. The words and the melody arrived fully formed. I pulled out my phone and sang the whole thing into it.
Then I went and met my friend for drinks.
As luck would have it, that friend, Matt Kennon, is singing on this track. Also singing is Julie Rozansky, the song’s bassist. I love the way their voice blend with each other’s, and with mine. I hope you do too.

It was right over there
I first caught a rare
Glimpse of you with your book
And that’s all it took
Sitting right on those stairs
Like you had no cares
In a world pushing through
I could only see you
Bloodshot and blue
I poured my heart out for you
Bloodshot and blue
There’s no cure for you
On a day just like this
With a breeze turning crisp
I could see in your face
All the time that you wasted
Chasing a dream
That was not what it seemed
But you looked at me
Like I was something to see
Bloodshot and blue
I poured my heart out for you
Bloodshot and blue
There’s no cure for you
I could go back today
But you’re so far away
I could wait till I crack
But you’re not coming back
Wherever you are
I know it’s too far
For these eyes of mine to find
Before they go blind
Bloodshot and blue
I poured my heart out for you
Bloodshot and blue
There’s no cure for you
