The weekend after September 11, 2001, hurt and reeling, we packed up our Toyota Corolla and left the city to go camping with friends up in the Catskills. Before we went, I tied an American flag to the antenna of my car. I wasn’t the only one. Everywhere you went that weekend you saw American flags. There was a sense of unity in this country that was stronger even than the fear and anger in the air.
If there is one thing that we can do, as Americans, to honor the thousands who died on September 11, it is to reach across the chasms that separate us today and to try to connect with each other again. With love, for our country and each other. With respect, for facts and for truth. With humility, in honor of the ultimate sacrifice. With recognition that there is no them, there’s only us.
It's like the room just cleared of smoke I didn't even want the heart you broke It's yours to keep You just might need one Finally found my real name I won't be me when you see me again No, I won't be my father's son I'm more than you know I'm more than you see here I'm more than you let me be I'm more than you know A body in a soul You don't see me but you will I am not invisible I don't dream, not as such I don't even think about you that much Unless I start to think at all All those frozen days And your frozen ways They melt away Your face like snow I'm more than you know I'm more than you see here I'm more than you let me be I'm more than you know A body in a soul You don't see me but you will I am not invisible I am here There is no them There's only us
