The day between my son’s 28th birthday and my mother’s 93rd is spectacular: sunny and warm in a world where overwhelming love is hiding in plain sight. It’s just a kiss away.

The love of my life floats on our pool while I cling to a healthy body that has so far avoided succumbing to a lifelong addiction to alcohol. I just can’t seem to drink her off my mind.

She touched my lips as I spoke, the way someone who is blind and deaf might. It made my lips sensitive, swollen, and hot. We all need someone we can dream on. If you want to, you can dream on me.
