Love is wonderful. All things considered, it’s the most wonderful thing there is. But it has a downside. You can fall in love with someone who doesn’t love you back, or is an asshole, or who dies on you and leaves you all alone with your love. You can fall in love with someone who is incompatible for any number of reasons: geographical, chronological or ideological. You might fall in love with someone who’s already in love with someone else, or you may already be in love with someone else, either of which is a bit of a sticky wicket. You might also fall in love so deep that it overwhelms your ability to function like a normal human being.
I was inspired by such feelings last week to write a song called I Love You So Bad It Hurts.
I love you so bad it hurts
With a kind of pain I don’t mind at all
I love you so bad it hurts
I love you so much I don’t
Have anything left for anyone else
I love you so much I don’t
I love you so much I can’t
Drink enough so I can forget
The way your love burns like a lit cigarette
But I love you so much I’ll never regret
That I love you so much I can’t
I’ve loved you so long I can’t see
All the way back to the morning before
My love came knocking around at your door
I might as well just admit that I’m yours
‘Cause I’ve loved you so long I can’t see
