Mike’s Musical Monday – Wouldn’t It Be Funny?

One of my favorite songwriters of all time is someone very close to me. I have the good luck to know a number of really good songwriters, including bandmates over the years such as Mstt Kennon, RickMyers and Todd Elder, and friends and acquaintances such as Andy Mullen and Anita Maj. I’ve even written some songs myself. But the best of the bunch in my opinion is my brother James. This is one of his most recent compositions: Wouldn’t It Be Funny?

You wrote a book about a fisherman, honey
I wrote a song about a fish
Neither one made us money but they brought us happiness
Wouldn’t it be funny if we were in love?
You took a boat ‘cross The River Jordan
I lived in Jordan, Tennessee
No, we don’t have much in common, you and me
Wouldn’t it be funny if we were in love?
You’ve been near and far, I’ve wished upon a star
The first time that I saw you I knew I’d lose my heart
But the love I had for you was nothing you could use
All that I could do was write this song
You had a dog that was cute as a button
I had a button of Jerry Lee
You had a laugh to beat the band but a band ain’t enough for me
Wouldn’t it be funny if we were in love?
You’ve been near and far, I’ve wished upon a star
The first time that I saw you I knew I’d lose my heart
But the love I had for you was nothing you could use
All that I could do was write this song
You were the woman that I dreamed of
I was a dream you never had
Maybe in another lifetime we’ll find happiness
Wouldn’t it be funny if we were in love?
Wouldn’t it be funny if we were in love?
